Sparwood & District
Chamber of Commerce
|
The Sparwood and District Chamber of Commerce was incorporated in 1983, under Federal Legislation, The Boards of Trade Act. The objective of the Sparwood Chamber of Commerce is to sustain existing business, enhance business opportunities and improve the economic, social, ecological and cultural well being of the community through demonstrated leadership in the promotion of economic development and diversification and support for, and initiation of community events. It is only by succeeding in its primary function that jobs and wealth will be generated, wealth that is essential to finance all government, civic, educational, cultural and charitable needs of the community. The Chamber of Commerce is a volunteer organization of a particular kind. The Chamber of Commerce ideal is a concept found only where private initiative and free enterprise exist. The Chamber is proud of the relationship it has with its major partner, the District of Sparwood, without the support of which, the Chamber would not be able to offer many of the services it does. The Sparwood & District Chamber of Commerce is a member of both the BC Chamber of Commerce and the Canadian Chamber of Commerce, with its voice being heard at all levels of government. In Sparwood, the Chamber operates the Visitor Centre, the Sparwood Business Information Centre, and is a founder member of the Provincial Tourist Network. Through its Visitor Centre, the Chamber provides thousands of visitors each year with information about Sparwood and British Columbia. The Business Information Centre provides services to local businesspersons and entrepreneurs through its lobbying and research capabilities. The BIC also promotes locations of new businesses and provides information and assistance on business and personal relocations to Sparwood. The Chamber supports other community groups in their endeavors and provides a cost-free conduit for non-profit group and community notices appearing on the Community TV Channel operated by Shaw Cable. The Chamber manages the Titan display and Titan Park and welcomes local residents to perform as "Sparwood Ambassadors" during the summer months. The purpose of the Ambassadors is to promote Sparwood to visitors from all over the world and to provide additional information on local business, services, facilities, local points of interest, and the Sparwood Murals. The murals are and outdoor celebration of the heritage of Sparwood, which lies in the physically-extinct villages of Michel, Natal and Middletown. Soon the Ambassadors will be talking of the Mining Artifact walking tour that the District of Sparwood is in the process of completing.
